Kite Training and Preparation

After an autumn training individually and preparing kit for the Icelandic Challenge it was time for the team to get together to have a debrief, test some prototype kites from Flexifoil and various equipment supplied by Vango for the crossing.

The team met up at Midlands Air Sports where they were given a fantastic reception and the club went above and beyond to aid the team in allowing them to use the club house, camp overnight on the airfield and also lending a hand in some of the kite flying.

Unfortunately the wind wasn't with the team for the full weekend and they could only get out in their buggies on Saturday morning. Even though there wasn't much wind to work with the team made the best of it trying larger kites and different techniques. It's very simple to fly the kites when you have clean wind to play with, but with the conditions the team had they really had to work using all their experience to get the best out of the day.

With the drop in wind it gave the team a perfect opportunity to test and review equipment from Vango. This lead to some great team competitions and experience , putting up tents, reviewing and demonstrating kit to be taken and finally an enjoyable evening with a two team cook off to produce an evening meal for the whole team. Although the team didn't get the wind their wished for everyone gained a lot from the weekend.
